Despite having worked in the construction industry for over forty years, the prospect of undertaking the complete renovation of a 1960’s dwelling when you are located over 300 miles from the site, and not knowing any local contracting firms was quite daunting. I therefore set about researching contracting companies in the North Cornwall area. After over ten telephone interviews I arrived at a short list of four companies. During the tender period GPH stood out as by far the most professional offering advice on different aspects of the project which ultimately provided project savings. GPH understood the brief and I found the way they presented their tender was transparent and easy to follow.
Ahead of appointing GPH I asked them for their works programme which was extremely detailed. During the project I had several video calls with them allowing me to assess progress. We also arranged monthly site visit which I found to be well structured. During the works I appointed a local kitchen supplier and landscaping company. GPH managed these contractors for me ensuring that their works was integrated into their programme. There were several variations a few relating to unforeseen elements such as underground drainage, but most changes came from us in terms of additional works such as external decoration. Despite the additional works they delivered a high-quality finish with minimum defects in line with the original twelve-week contract period.
